Creator-based® Restoration is not simply doing nothing....

Image
I spent the week at the beach in Galveston, and it was lovely. Perfect, really. I didn't do much. I walked on the beach, ate great food, watched some fun television, and slept a lot. It was restful, heart-filling, and restorative. Do you have the opportunity to restore yourself very often? Restoration has 2 phases for me. One is dumping, and the other is refilling. My dump phase usually involves doing something mindless: Netflix, Hulu, Instagram, or Thredup (my favorite online thrift store). By letting my mind just stop and empty out, it makes room for what I need to restore myself. The second part of restoration is what I call "filling." Filling for me looks like a walk on the beach or the woods by my house, reading a good book, talking with a friend, yoga, or organizing & rearranging the furniture in my tiny home. (There are only so many places to put your furniture in 400 square feet. :) By the time I have emptied and filled, I am ready to begin again. That, f...

Creator-based® Care, What About the 50% That's Not so Good?

Image
Have you had pain in your life? Have you had pain this week? Today?   I think we  all have.   A stubbed toe, angry words, car accident, failure at work, world and national struggles, so much senseless killing.   We all have pain, right? One of the ways life becomes perfect is in the way we choose to work with pain.   Understanding that life is about 50% good and 50% not so good, we need a game plan for what to do in our off times.  I don’t need any help knowing what to do in the good times! But what do you do in the off times? How, in your perfectly 50/50 life, do you work through the off times? Faith: Remember that the 50% that is good will return.  No matter how dark the night, the sun will always, always come back up at dawn. Friends & Family : Connection is essential.  Whatever or whomever you call family (Karma, my Great Dane, is a beloved family member for me); as human beings, we are wired for connection.  We need each other...

Creator-based® Wholeness

Click on the image to watch the podcast on this same blog! In the tradition of the book Creator-based® Coaching: Creating Your One Awesome, Amazing, Perfect Life , this month’s theme is Perfect, as in whole and complete, I ask,  “Are you a perfectionist?” Synonyms for perfectionist could be ‘purist, idealist, traditionalist, insistent person, precisionist, never satisfied with the average life, born to shine’. They can also be ‘quibbler, nitpicker, fanatic, picky, pushy, too big for her britches; she thinks she’s all that…’ I discovered an amazing book by Katherine Morgan Schafler entitled 'The Perfectionists Guide to Losing Control.' She mentions that being branded a perfectionist with a negative connotation seems to be uniquely feminine. Women often refer to themselves as ‘recovering perfectionists.’  Have you ever heard Steve Jobs, Gordon Ramsey, or other male leaders criticized for excellence or perfection? Why does that happen to us as women? We ...

Creator-based® Excellence

This month we will be talking about perfection in all of its beautiful and degrading forms.  Perfection in and of itself is a worthy goal. The problem is when we look at perfection as being without flaws, rather than as fully developed and complete.  If we are striving to live a life without flaws and mistakes, we are on a dangerous road!  Mistakes and failures are necessary and very, very good.  They are an important part of a beautiful, Creator-based® growth process. When I was growing up, I always knew when it was Mom and Dad’s anniversary.  Dad would bring home a dozen red roses, and Mom would place them in a beautiful, lead crystal vase on top of the TV.  There they would abide for two weeks or so.  The room was usually dark for television watching, so I couldn’t see a lot of the vase, but I knew it was a treasure. Fast forward many years, and the lead crystal vase now has a treasured home on my shelf.  It’s out every day, sparkles in the sun...
